Our fragrance selection charter

Perfume at Oh My Cream?

Perfume has never really been an obvious choice. But with customer demand growing steadily and the emergence of niche fragrance brands consistent with our selection, it was time for us to take the plunge. We couldn't be completely present in your bathroom without offering you this selection of fragrances. But not just any perfume: modern, desirable fragrances, with designer packaging and noble formulations, capable of boosting our mood in just two or three spritzes.

How are our fragrances selected?

With the same rigor we apply to all our other skincare products. As perfume is a cosmetic product, we naturally apply the criteria of the selection charter for our clean beauty offering

The ultimate condition for joining our shelves? The Oh My Cream twist: we needed innovative, creative brands that would dust off the world of perfume, demystify its jargon, and put the emotions and joy of smelling good back at the heart of the experience.

It took us no less than a year to find perfume 2.0 brands that formulate differently. Where "clean" is becoming the norm in cosmetics, it's not quite the case in perfumery.

Ingredients, eco-responsibility and quality

Because not all perfumes are created equal, here are our main criteria for offering you the cream of the crop when it comes to perfumes:

  • A safe formula : as with the skincare products we reference, we scrutinize the ingredient lists of the fragrances in our range.

A perfume contains :

- denatured alcohol: This serves as a carrier for the perfume, since all the ingredients are diluted in it. Its presence enables aromatic notes to be blended without altering their scent. Its use poses no safety problems. Some perfumes are formulated on an alternative water base, but they don't hold up as well on the skin and often have a milky, foamy texture. It is for this reason, among others, that we have sourced Versatile Parisa brand of oily, roll-on perfumes suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

-Fragrance: It makes up between 3% (for colognes) and 40% (for perfume extracts). Fragrance molecules are highly regulated and, fortunately, many of them have been banned between 2021 and 2023. These raw materials are regulated byIFRA, the International Fragrance Association . This is the official international body representing the fragrance industry. Its main aim is to ensure the safety of fragrance raw materials for health and the environment, through a dedicated scientific program.

On June 30, 2023, the 51st amendment to the IFRA standards was published. For all those involved in the cosmetics and fragrance industry, this amendment implies the revision and possible modification of cosmetic dossiers, as well as formulas where applicable. This new edition has had an impact on over fifty concentrates used by perfumers. As IFRA is much quicker and more reactive than the European Cosmetics Regulations, we are asking our partner brands to already comply with this amendment (they normally have a longer lead time) and to have this IFRA51 certification.

-UV filters. These are sometimes necessary to protect the juice from UV rays and thus ensure good fragrance stability. Here too, we apply our clean beauty selection charterfor example, by excluding homosal and benzophenone.

-Preservatives: These are quite rare, due to the alcoholic base of perfumes, but they can be found. Here again, you can rest assured: we challenge the brands on the system used and its percentage. And as with our skincare products, we blacklist parabens, BHA, BHT, MIT...

-colorants: We'd like to do without them, because we like "no-frills" formulas. In fact, to date, we've succeeded, since the brands Racyne, Fascent, Versatile Paris, Cra-Yon and Vyrao do not contain any. However, we don't blacklist them, as the natural colour of a juice can sometimes need a little "twist".

Finally, as with our skincare formulas, we have not opted for all-natural fragrances, for the simple reason that this would have severely limited our choice, without guaranteeing you better safety or tolerance.

The formulas selected are a skilful blend of synthetic ingredients and natural extracts, to guarantee you the finest olfactory signatures, refined and full of nuances.

  • Committed brands: Instead of over-packaging, we chose brands with minimalist packaging. Instead of thick glass bottles and weighted caps, we opted for brands that take a stand against the big names in luxury. Recycled and recyclable cardboard, bioresin caps, slimmed-down glass bottles, FSC paper, as well as sustainable and ethically extracted raw materials, we have selected our partner brands for their environmental and social commitments
  • Quality : For our skincare products, we talk about effectiveness. But it's something else that comes into play with fragrance. With this selection, we wanted to focus on emotion and sensations. We wanted to invite you to (re)take pleasure in the intimate act of perfuming. That's why we wanted to offer you a selection of perfume brands that work on the nobility of their formulas and the sourcing of their raw materials, for ultra-high quality fine perfumery.

The glossary

Want to know even more about fragrances? Here's a little glossary to help you make sense of it all!

-Eau de Cologne : This has a much more subtle fragrance than perfume, but its scent doesn't last as long on the skin. In fact, it tends to evaporate quickly and often has a lighter tenacity.

-Eau de Cologne : This has a much more subtle fragrance than perfume, but its scent doesn't last as long on the skin. In fact, it tends to evaporate quickly and often has a lighter tenacity.

- Eau de toilette: This is a subtle fragrance that lasts 3 to 5 hours on the skin. It is often appreciated by people who wish to perfume themselves lightly or, for example, for an evening.

- Eau de parfum: Persists for up to 6 hours on average, making it a good compromise for people looking for a less concentrated fragrance than perfume that will last over time.

A bit like a musical score, they make up the olfactory signature of a juice. We distinguish between :

  • Top notes: these are the notes we smell as soon as we spray, and which give us our first impression of a fragrance. They are also the most volatile notes, often corresponding to citrus or herbal aromas.

  • Heart notes : these are more voluptuous and reflect the true personality of a fragrance. They appear after several minutes and are often floral, fruity or even spicy.

  • Base notes: these are the scents that linger on clothes or skin and are the last to be smelled. They give the fragrance staying power, and are often woody, animalic or gourmand.

To be sprayed with subtlety, it can last for several consecutive hours on the skin without fading, and has a powerful, assertive scent.

This is the structure of the fragrance. It's made up of top, middle and base notes. The ingredients of a fragrance do not all have the same importance or persistence, depending on the tone you wish to give it.
