Sophie Trem's Wellness Address Book
There are those who follow wellness trends, and those who have been living them for a long time... Sophie Trem definitely belongs to the second category. Founder of the blog The Other Art of Living and Good Mood Class, trained in Chinese medicine and a tai chi practitioner, she cultivates a lifestyle where body and mind move forward together. Tui na massage, infrared sauna, a seaside retreat in Trouville: she shares her top spots for pampering yourself.
How would you describe your philosophy of self-care?
“Today, I’d say it’s just common sense to take care of yourself in order to stay healthy and feel good—and, of course, since I’m deeply influenced by Chinese medicine: it’s all about prevention and foresight, as well as the philosophy of yin and yang in the pursuit of a certain balance that we know is all too fragile.”
What are your essential habits and rituals?
“Since early September, I’ve been going to the gym three times a week in the morning—something I never used to do because it really wasn’t my thing—but this new routine is having an amazing effect, not only on my body, which is getting back into shape —I’d gained more than seven kilos between perimenopause and a lack of activity—but above all, I can see that it’s like night and day for my mental state, because during those two hours I’m disconnected; I’m not on a screen; I listen to positive affirmations and business podcasts—it’s incredibly motivating, so I feel like I’m getting a regular reset.”
What do you think is your most rejuvenating activity that gives you the biggest dopamine boost?
“Dancing has always been my thing, but it’s not very convenient to get to, so I don’t do it very often.”
You practice Ashtanga—can you tell us more about this practice and what it brings you?
“'I started practicing Ashtanga when I was 25 and practiced it for six years with a teacher in private lessons. His name is Lakshman, and he teaches at centers in Paris. These days, I don’t really practice it anymore; I focus on martial arts like Tai Chi, which is connected to Chinese medicine.'”
What is the most relaxing place for both the mind and the body?
“Octane is definitely one of my favorite spots. I even took a friend there. We spent the morning getting a few treatments together. It was great. Other than that, I love The Method for its fitness and dance classes in the dark—they’re a total blast.”
Which expert do you trust to give you a massage that exceeds all your expectations?
“I see my osteopath, Nicolas Beal, two or three times a year. He uses chiropractic techniques in addition to osteopathy. I feel like he realigns me from head to toe From , which is exactly what I need.”
And finally, where do you go when you want to turn on *Do Not Disturb* mode?
“From , whenever I’m getting a treatment—whatever it may be, of course.”
