In the bathroom of Fabienne Sebaoun, founder of Mimétique
A scientist at heart and lifelong skin enthusiast, Fabienne Sebaoun founded Mimétique with a clear ambition: to understand what skin really needs, far from fleeting trends and "must-have" products. Meet this successful entrepreneur for whom every innovation responds to a real need, and every skincare gesture becomes a moment of understanding and self-care.
How do you take care of your skin today?
“I moisturize and protect my skin a lot. That's my foundation. And I admit, I try out a lot of formulas and raw ingredients. My bathroom is an extension of my lab. I'm this close to replacing bathrobes with white coats. My husband is still a little resistant, but I'll get there eventually.
In the evening: I clean up at Skin Cloud, exfoliate two to three times a week, and am currently testing anti-dark spot products, most recently thiamidol. I finish with Restore+, our richest cream (released in January 2026), for dry, mature, and sensitive skin. Mine ticks all the boxes.
In the morning: Skin Revive because its antioxidant and radiance-boosting properties are quite incredible. It has a very light texture, so I add one or two creams depending on the season. I have very dry skin, so I don't mess around with oiliness. Our eye contour CTRL EYE, which I also apply around my mouth. Then SPF. Non-negotiable. I also love the Oh My Cream selection: the EGF Serum by Bioeffect, the Oh My CreamOh My Cream Skincare, which I love to mix with Skin Restore Cream for an even more natural effect, the Bisou Balm Violette_FR in the shade Mon Chéri... and so much more.
I also do LED at my dermatologist's office. And I don't use retinol. You can get similar effects with other active ingredients without making your skin photosensitive. But everyone is free to choose."
What was the trigger?
After years working for major brands, I needed to understand skin and how to formulate products for it. When COVID hit, I went back to university to study chemistry with this goal in mind. We all have our neuroses. I wanted to crack the code of skin, understand how it really works so I could create biotech formulas highly concentrated in active ingredients that really work. I love learning and getting to the bottom of things, especially when I'm passionate about them. I'm almost obsessive. Going back to school at my age, with students in their twenties and younger (ouch!), was quite something. But I don't regret it for a second."
Tell us more about the mimicry skin. What fascinates you about this concept?
What fascinated me was the obviousness of it. The answer was right there, staring us in the face, in the very structure of the skin. That's what skin mimicry is all about: choosing ingredients that your skin already has, that it recognizes and absorbs. These ingredients boost its key biological mechanisms. The goal is to mimic the skin so that it can function to its full potential. Why impose things on it that it doesn't recognize when we can give it exactly what it needs? Once I understood that, I couldn't think about anything else. I was reading studies at 2 a.m. Even the Netflix series (in 2020), Tiger King and its mullet-wearing big cat breeder, didn't stand a chance.
What if you could only keep one Mimétiqueskincare product?
“Skin Restore+, our latest launch. It's the richest cream we've ever formulated, designed exclusively for dry, mature, and sensitive skin. But honestly, just one? That's a tough question. Because if you had asked me for two products, I would have added CTRL EYE.”
What's on the horizon for Mimétique
“Lots of things. My amazing team and I are working on several new launches, all requested by our community. They guide us; we don't do anything on our own. And in 2026, a new complex is coming. I wake up every morning looking forward to reading everyone's comments and feedback. I'm very lucky to be part of this adventure, and I never take anything for granted.”
