In Leslie Dumeix's make-up kit
There are few make-up artists like Leslie Dumeix who know how to reveal a face's radiance without erasing its uniqueness. A make-up artist acclaimed for her mastery of the art of "less is more", she has made subtle, authentic glow her signature. Leslie opens her kit to us and shares her secrets for make-up that glows with naturalness.
How did your passion for make-up come about?
"My passion was born very early. As a little girl, I'd rummage through my mother's make-up bag, and at the slightest opportunity, I'd transform my girlfriends, putting make-up on them, taking photos of them... I was already passionate about transformation and beauty.
I was also lucky enough to grow up in a family that was very connected to fashion: both my grandmother and my aunt worked in this field and introduced me to magazines from an early age. I was fascinated by fashion photography, by the faces, lights and looks captured in those glossy pages. It really awakened my eye and my sensitivity."
"I originally studied international trade because I thought it was the 'serious' path to take. But then one day my aunt said, 'Why don't you look for a job related to make-up? You love it! I didn't even know you could make a real career out of it. That was the trigger.
I went to make-up school, then assisted make-up artists on shoots and shows. And little by little, I found my place in this creative universe."
What are your make-up essentials?
- Blush ReDimension RMS Beauty: "A real favorite. Its clean cream-powder texture brings a fresh glow to the face and its shades are sublime. Ideal for a "plumped skin" effect and a healthy rosy complexion, with just the right amount of glow."
- Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturizer Victoria Beckham Beauty: "A must-have for awakening dull complexions. Its melting texture brings instant radiance, without glitter or excessive shine, just a sophisticated glow. It deeply moisturizes and smoothes the skin, and on fair skins it leaves a light, ultra-flattering tanned effect. I use it both as a base and as a radiance treatment on "no-makeup makeup" days."
-
Lip Nectar Violette_FR A true sensory gem. You start with a comfortable, shiny gloss... then, as the hours go by, the texture fades to leave a veil of long-lasting colour on the lips. The shades are all perfectly thought out, so there's no room for faux pas.
It's the ideal product for those who like their lips luminous and lively, evolving beautifully throughout the day without ever marking or drying out." - Vast Lash Mascara Victoria Beckham Beauty: "The perfect mascara for instant volume and intensified eyes in a single stroke. It lengthens, gives density without clumping, and opens the eyes instantly. A true "doe effect" that lasts from morning to night."
- Surreal Skin Makeup By Mario concealer: "My must-have! Its coverage is remarkable, yet imperceptible on the skin. It lasts all day without marking or creating a "cakey" effect under the eyes. I also use it for express touch-ups - its texture blends perfectly, even after several hours."
What has your job taught you about yourself?
"That beauty is deeply linked to the human bond. Make-up is a very intimate gesture: you find yourself touching the faces of people you don't know, and no one will let you do that without trust. It's also taught me to be more attentive to others, to strike the right balance between technique and sensitivity. And more broadly, it taught me to have patience, and to stand back in the face of perfection."
Finally, do you have any advice for people for whom makeup can seem overwhelming?
"As the saying goes "Less is more"
Start with little. Perhaps try to master one thing at a time.
Choose a light, fluid product, for example, for the complexion, which will apply more easily, and soft, natural shades for the eyes with which you can't go wrong.
And if the lip pencil intimidates you, a tinted moisturizing balm can be a beautiful alternative: it subtly colors, moisturizes, and gives a fresh effect effortlessly. The key is to trust yourself... and have fun with textures!"
