We tested it for you... Microdermabrasion for a back-to-school makeover

What if back-to-school could finally be synonymous with flawless skin, a complexion that debunks but remains clear and smooth, and a total absence of imperfections and post-exposure spots? The secret to flawless skin between now and the end of summer: microdermabrasion, an innovative exfoliating technique that eliminates all impurities and gives you a real glow.

Why exfoliate your skin at the start of the school year?

By the end of summer, vacation memories can be read on the skin: the epidermis naturally thickens to protect itself from the sun's rays, dead cells accumulate and dull radiance, and the skin is dehydrated due to excessive exposure to UV rays, salt, chlorine and sand - all irritating, drying and abrasive agents that weaken the cutaneous barrier. The result is a dull, uneven complexion as the tan fades. Exfoliation is the key to smoothing the skin, stimulating cell renewal and restoring radiance.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive aesthetic medicine technique designed to smooth the epidermis. The treatment involves projecting microcrystal particles at high speed onto the area to be treated. They then progressively abrade the surface layer of the skin, removing impurities and dead cells, and sucking up cellular debris. Similar to a mechanical peel or scrub, this exfoliation methodactivates cell renewal and corrects imperfections, leaving skin smooth, fresh and radiant.

Dermabrasion, microdermabrasion or peeling, what are the differences?

  • Dermabrasion is a more invasive technique, performed under local anaesthetic and reserved for more serious concerns such as scars, deep wrinkles or very pronounced blemishes. It consists of sanding the skin deep down using a rotary cutter.

  • The peel is based on chemical exfoliationusing fruit acids or glycolic acid. Depending on the concentration of active ingredients, it can have a superficial effect on skin radiance, or a more in-depth effect on wrinkles, blemishes or imperfections. There are different types of peel: more gentle, to be carried out at home or in a beauty salon, or heavier, reserved for aesthetic medicine practices.

  • Microdermabrasion is a gentler, more controlled alternative, and requires no anaesthetic or social eviction. The skin may be slightly pink after the treatment.

What are the benefits of microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion acts like a gentle skin reset. Summer or winter, this mechanical exfoliation technique cleanses the face and rids the skin of dead cells and impurities that dull the complexion, for a "new skin" effect and radiant, rejuvenated skin. It helps to :

  • Refine skin texture: by eliminating dead cells and excess sebum, skin is smoother and softer.

  • Boost radiance : by stimulating skin oxygenation and boosting blood circulation, for a radiant face that's soft to the touch.

  • Reduce pigmentation spots : ideal for evening out the complexion after sun exposure or in the case of light spots.

  • Smooth fine lines and wrinkles: by stimulating cell renewal and collagen production, it helps reduce the first signs of aging.

  • Tighten pores: by unclogging them, skin looks smoother and clearer.

  • Improve skin care penetration: once the horny layer has been removed, the skin is better able to absorb the active ingredients in creams or serums applied afterwards.

Who can benefit from microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is for all skin types in search of radiance. Ideal for blurring dull complexions, reducing dilated pores, pigmentation spots and fine lines and wrinkles. It is particularly suitable for normal to combination skin in search of freshness, but is not recommended for very sensitive skin or skin prone to inflammation (active acne, eczema, rosacea).

Our opinion on Microdermabrasion by Maison Lutétia

At Maison Lutétia, microdermabrasion is one of the key steps in the Soin Signature treatment. The treatment consists of a deep cleansing with a first gentle cleansing to remove make-up, followed by mechanical exfoliation with the Diamond Peel (the microdermabrasion machine), and comedo extraction, followed by chemical exfoliation with fruit acids. The treatment continues with an ultra-relaxing tissue massage, the application of a mask and an LED session, before concluding with the application of a serum and moisturizer.

"The protocol is meticulously thought out down to the smallest detail to restore smooth, refined, soft skin texture. The radiance is undeniable once the treatment is over, and the skin looks more even, plumped and plumped up. I used this treatment just before going on vacation, and I have to say that my tan is holding up much better than in previous years... A game-changing treatment when skin is in need of a good cleansing to revive its radiance. "Elsa, Editorial Manager
