Super foods for beautiful skin courtesy of Faustine Hug (...and a recipe!)

The beginning of a new year is the ideal time for a reset. Who better than the chef Faustine Hug to share a shopping list of seasonal ingredients that are full of vitamins to help detox body and skin. And a recipe of course to ensure you can use them straight away!

Fruits

Avocado: Candy for the skin, this fruit is the good student that moisturizes, nourishes and cleanses the body. Thanks to it, our skin is more plump, toned, soft and healthy!

Apple: It has an incredible power of cellular regeneration, nourishes dry skin by restoring the intracellular matrix (this cement that retains water in the skin), revitalizes and boosts the radiance of the skin thanks to the quercetin and oligosides that it contains.

Vegetables

Beet: Perfect for detoxifying your liver, giving your lymphatic system a boost and giving your complexion a glow. All this while regulating excess sebum and fighting imperfections.

Celery stalk: Adopt the "svelte attitude" thanks to its glow-in-the-dark minerals and wonderful fiber! Celery aids digestion and reduces skin inflammation. It's the perfect ingredient to get rid of the bad vibes of the past year.

Fennel: Acts on water retention and purifies the body. Its little plus? It limits the bloating that can occur after the heavy meals of the end-of-year celebrations!

Spices

Ginger: Excellent booster of blood circulation, it facilitates the elimination of toxins. It also acts on digestion and the balance of the intestinal flora. Two essentials for a radiant complexion and unified skin.

Faustine’s healthy skin recipe

The detox salad

Ingredients

  • 1 fennel bulb
  • 120g baby spinach leaves
  • 1 whole, ripe avocado
  • ½ cucumber
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 branches of celery
  • 1 bunch of coriander
  • ½ head of broccoli
  • 2 soup spoons of unpasteurised cider vinegar
  • 1 soup spoon of olive oil (you don’t need too much as the avocado contains plenty of oil)
  • A pinch of Himalayan salt

Method

  1. Wash all the vegetables
  2. Steam the broccoli for 5 minutes. It should still be crunchy.
  3. Peel the carrots, take off the outer leaves of the fennel, cut the avocado in 2 and remove the stone and the skin.
  4. Slice the fennel, the celery, the avocado, the carrot, the coriander and the cucumber finely.
  5. Wash the spinach leaves and rinse them well.
  6. Mix the vinegar, oil and salt together in a large salad bowl.
  7. Add all the salad ingredients and you’re ready!
