5 signs that you are not using the right shampoo

My hair gets greasy again very quickly after washing

Even after careful rinsing, there's nothing I can do: when I dry my hair, it feels heavy and greasy. Nothing could be more frustrating when you think you've got rid of all impurities... It's not always your sebaceous glands' fault if the effect is sudden: yes, because if you've decided to convert to using an organic or natural shampoo without silicones, you're in the middle of a detox effect. The sheathing effect of silicones applied over time suffocates the hair: under the layer of silicones, the hair fiber suffocates! Natural shampoo gradually eliminates this layer of matter, and to compensate for this loss, sebum production increases.

It's only in this case that you don't need to change shampoos - you just need to stick with it. Of course, you should also avoid hair care products containing silicones. Another reason: if you have "normal" hair, use a shampoo that's too nourishing (e.g. shea butter-based), and use it every day. It will unquestionably make your hair greasy.

The roots of my hair are itchy

The shampoo you're using may be too aggressive: check its cleansing base first.to start with. If, in the first line of its composition, you detect the gentle name "ammonium lauryl sulfate" or "sodium laureth sulfate", it's best to stop using it. Instead, opt for more respectful surfactants such as "sodium cocoyl isethionate" or "sodium coco sulfate", directly derived from coconut especially for very dry scalps or frizzy hair, which is by nature very fragile.

Another possible cause of itching: ancillary hair products or leave-in care products such as styling lacquers or dry shampoos leave itchy residues at the roots of the hair if they are not properly removed during washing and, above all, if they are not formulated cleanly. If, despite everything, itching persists and is accompanied by small red patches, it's best to visit your dermatologist to make sure it's not the start of eczema and, in the meantime, to choose a very mild shampoo with a simple composition.

Since I changed shampoo, I have dandruff

Here again, it may be a problem linked to the cleansing base of your shampoo. Sulfates are great for washing hair quickly and creating a nice lather, but they can also cause other damage to the hair (especially when present in high doses and not compensated for by gentle cleansing agents): that's when dandruff can happen! To eradicate the problem, we often make the mistake of turning to an anti-dandruff shampoo - after all, it would make sense - but most of the time, it's better to do without.

The majority of mass-market anti-dandruff shampoos are extremely aggressive, treating oily dandruff rather than dry dandruff. As regulators, they are supposed to eliminate all excess sebum to prevent oily dandruff. So you run the risk of perpetuating the problem. Instead, opt for a mild shampoo for sensitive scalps and everything should be back to normal.

My hair seems to suddenly turn dry

Wouldn't you have switched to a natural shampoo? The absence of silicones, depending on hair type, can either cause excess sebum, as we've seen, or make hair dull and, above all, very dry! When silicones are progressively eliminated, we discover the true nature of our hair and, as a bonus, the damage that was well hidden under the thick layer of silicones... Damaged hair, very dry lengths and lack of shine, the hair fiber has seen it all. You can then switch to a gentler, richer shampoo based on natural active ingredients, always banning silicones.

I have split ends

Over time, brittle hair with damaged lengths can reach the fiber and cause split ends. Unfortunately, using using a shampoo with a non-nutritive formula aggravates the problem. In this case, we don't rely on the pretty label on the front of the bottle, but on the composition of the product on the back, making sure that the nourishing active ingredients are at the beginning of the composition and that there are no aggressive surfactants. In addition to a protective, nourishing shampoo for dry hair, we plan a trip to the hairdresser to trim damaged ends, and avoid hair that's been tied up too often. Ideally, we put the hair dryer and straightener on pause.

The team's favorite shampoos

For dry and/or curly hair: Le Nourishing Bamboo Pith Cream Shampoo Leonor Greyl is the ideal shampoo for thick, lathered hair. It gently cleanses and nourishes thick, dry or curly hair, while adding shine. What's more,
contains bamboo marrow extract to nourish and smooth hair fibers, while its conditioning action eliminates the need for conditioner.

For fine hair in need of volume: Le Voluminous Shampoo Shampoing Volumateur Rahua has a cult following. Its purifying and fortifying cocktail of lemongrass, green tea and aloe vera leaves hair silky and offers incredible shine, despite the absence of silicones. Finally, eucalyptus essential oil provides an invigorating sensation of freshness.

For color-treated hair: Le Shield Shampoo colour Christophe Robin. Successive bleaching and/or coloring never leaves our manes unscathed: hair becomes brittle and porous, even elastic. This specific shampoo is a must for blond hair, thanks to its acidic pH which tightens the scales to better fix the pigments at the heart of the fiber! And because it's so acidic, don't skip the conditioner, for soft, repaired hair. And that pleasant wheat germ fragrance...

For normal hair: Le Gentle Shampoo Oh My Cream Skincare is the ultimate all-purpose shampoo, perfect for everyday use! Thanks to its natural cleansing base derived from coconut, it cleanses gently. Its sage and rosemary extracts purify the scalp and optimize growth, while aloe vera leaves hair moisturized and light.
