City Guide: Brussels with Valentine Witmeur Lab

Looking for something different? Grab your summer vanity and get ready to hit the road for Brussels. We asked the colorful fashion brand, and more specifically its founder Valentine Witmeur, to share her favorite addresses for visiting Brussels in style.

For eating and drinking

Here are my 4 favorite Brussels addresses, not only because they're all run by friends, but also because they're part of the young generation that's getting Brussels moving on the gastronomic front!

  • For a drink: Rebel Winebar and Baditwo wine and cider bars that are totally in tune with the times and in step with their generation. Located respectively in Ixelles, in the lively Flagey district, and in Saint-Gilles, these two addresses are a must for lovers of cool food and natural wines and ciders. We also go there for the setting, the atmosphere and their fantastic teams.

  • For eating, I would definitely mention the 203 (still in Saint-Gilles) run by Mathilde and Richard, where you'll feel right at home. Le 203 is a small, intimate restaurant with a warm atmosphere, offering authentic, convivial cuisine, guided by a love of good produce. In fact, it was they who introduced me to natural wines.
  • And finally, Nénua true "saigonese eatery", is the Brussels address that combines incredible Vietnamese gastronomy in the form of shareable dishes and a wide selection of cocktails, all in a cool, contemporary setting.

For shopping

Located in the Brugmann district of Brussels, the boutique of the Belgian brand Wouters & Hendrix is well worth a visit! For those who don't know, Wouters & Hendrix is a jewelry brand I'm particularly fond of, with a 100% Belgian, quirky DNA that I adore.

For beautiful floral creations

My three favorite florists in Brussels are located in different parts of the city. Nouveau is located in the chic Place Brugmann district, and is run by Jeanne and Alexia. The atmosphere is true to their personalities, and the variety of flowers is exceptional. I often work with them for our various shoots. Further down, in the Saint-Gilles district, you'll find Boucanwhich also offers ceramics and various decorative objects, creating a real concept. The latest in Brussels: Davide Capassowhich stands out for its modern, contemporary and creative vision

For brunch or coffee

Three great places to take a coffee to go or enjoy brunch/lunch on site: Belga & Co, Stella and Honest. These three coffee shops, located in various districts of Brussels, offer a wide selection of refined coffees, with many variations to satisfy both the most classic and the most daring connoisseurs.

If you have more time for lunch or brunch, I particularly recommend Honest, in Forest, where I love to go on weekends with family and friends.

For art lovers

The WIELS in Forest is an international laboratory dedicated to the creation anddissemination of contemporary art, housed in a former industrial site rehabilitated for the benefit of culture. For a rich and varied cultural experience, discover the Bozara pillar of the Brussels art scene, distinguished by its originality and innovative spirit. In Ixelles, don't miss the Villa Empain (Fondation Boghossian), a remarkable example of Art Deco architecture that has become a center for art and dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures.

For ideas of galleries to explore : Sorry we are closed, Tomorrow, Almine Rech and Stems Gallery.

A neighborhood for strolling and bargain-hunting

It's unthinkable to visit Brussels without passing through the emblematic Place du Sablon. With its chic atmosphere and historic buildings, this district offers an experience that combines culture, history and culinary delights. The magnificent Église Notre-Dame du Sablon dominates the square, adding a touch of Gothic splendor to this district renowned for its antique shops and art galleries.

My favourite places to eat and drink in the area? Chez Richard, Café des Minimesthe emblematic Vieux Saint Martin and Pistolet Original to discover the famous Belgian pistol.

A little further down the street, you'll find Rue Blaes and Rue Haute, full of eclectic boutiques and second-hand shops. Nearby, the Place du Jeu de Balle, famous for its daily flea market, is another must for lovers of unique and authentic discoveries

The spot not to be missed

Located in the lower part of Brussels, a stone's throw from Place Sainte-Catherine, Noordzee is a must for anyone discovering the city. Originally a fishbar, it has been an emblematic Brussels institution since 1994. Noordzee offers a variety of dishes to share, made with fresh fish and shellfish in a street food spirit. Perfect for an outing with friends when the weather's nice, accompanied by a good bottle of wine.
