An appointment with... Professor Augustinus Bader

You have devoted over 30 years of your career to the study of regenerative medicine. Why this specialization?

“During the early years of my medical practice, I traveled to China to work with burn victims at Ruijin Hospital in Shanghai. The techniques used by the doctors at this burn treatment center were significantly more advanced than those in Europe at the time. Although I was impressed by the patients’ survival rates, it was shocking to witness the immense trauma, suffering, and scarring that accompanied their experiences. I then began to think about how to improve these types of treatments. I spent years researching a treatment that would allow for scar-free healing. I became a specialist in tissue engineering, which was the starting point for my interest in the regenerative capabilities of stem cells.

Can you explain how your research led you to develop the patented complex found in all your skincare products: TFC8®? 

“I developed ‘TFC8®’ after many years of research into the regenerative capabilities of stem cells. I began to understand how the body heals itself in the face of trauma and inflammation. The results of my research formed the basis for the creation of the first Trigger Factor Complex (TFC1) trial, designed for a high-quality medical hydrogel with the potential to repair significant traumatic injuries without the need for a skin graft.”

You've racked up a string of awards and your products are clinically proven. Why was it important for you to gain this recognition?

"When we received the'Best Skin Care Ever' award, the Augustinus Bader brand was just three years old. It was incredibly positive to be recognized by our peers, and proof that our ambitious project isn't so crazy. It was a massive validation of what we've achieved as a brand. They weren't judging the best marketing campaign, but the best skincare product. Today, our main asset remains our product."
