An appointment with... Professor Augustinus Bader

You've devoted over 30 years of your career to the study of regenerative medicine. Why this specialization?

"During the early years of my medical practice, I traveled to China to work with burn victims at Shanghai's Ruijin Hospital. The techniques of the doctors at this burn treatment center were far more advanced than in Europe at the time. Although I was impressed by the patient survival rate, it was shocking to see the immense trauma, suffering and scarring that accompanied the patients' experience. I began to think about how to improve these types of treatments. I spent years searching for a treatment that would enable healing without scarring. I became a specialist in tissue engineering, which was the starting point for my interest in the regenerative capacities of stem cells.

Can you tell us how your research led to the creation of the patented complex found in all your skin care products: TFC8®? 

"I developed 'TFC8®' after many years of research into the regenerative capabilities of stem cells. I began to understand how the body heals itself under conditions of trauma and inflammation. The results of my research formed the basis for the creation of the first Trigger Factor Complex (TFC1) trial, designed for a medical-grade hydrogel with the potential to repair major traumatic injuries without the need for skin grafting."

"We finally found a solution to the eighth trial and thus created Trigger Factor Complex 8 (TFC8® ), a complex tailored to create a non-medical skin care mechanism and provide the essential cell renewal actives to support the skin in a healthy renewal process."

You've racked up a string of awards and your products are clinically proven. Why was it important for you to gain this recognition?

"When we received the'Best Skin Care Ever' award, the Augustinus Bader brand was just three years old. It was incredibly positive to be recognized by our peers, and proof that our ambitious project isn't so crazy. It was a massive validation of what we've achieved as a brand. They weren't judging the best marketing campaign, but the best skincare product. Today, our main asset remains our product."
