Meet... Christine and Niclas, founders of the CRA-YON brand

A passionate duo and true pioneers of perfumery, Christine and Niclas Lydeen transform fragrance into a colorful, creative and inspiring experience with their CRA-YON brand. Meet this creative duo who are changing the game.

You both come from design and fashion backgrounds. How did you discover your shared passion for perfume? 

What fascinates us both and stimulates our creativity is how an idea or concept translates into a tangible experience. In our diverse skills in visual communication, writing, fashion and product design, we use the senses as a starting point. Smell, our most powerful sense, is the one that captivates us most. The ability to bring ideas and olfactory sensations to life through fragrance is a constant source of inspiration for us.

It was during her studies at Studio Berçot in Paris that Christine first felt a strong emotional bond with scents. Through a friend, she met a perfumer who introduced her to the world of ingredients and compositions. Later, in Sweden, she met Niclas, who was pursuing a Master's degree in design. Together, they realized just how fascinated they were by scents.

What role does perfume play in our daily lives?

Perfume plays many roles in our lives. It's not just a luxury, it's a form of self-expression and a tool for well-being. Perfume can improve our mood, boost our self-confidence and even bring back memories. At CRA-YONwe believe that fragrance is an invisible superpower that reinforces our presence and helps us capture moments, making everyday experiences more meaningful.

 

How was Cra-yon born?

The idea to create CRA-YON grew out of our desire to make fragrance relevant and fun again. We wanted to shake up conventional beauty standards and create a sustainable brand that allowed people to express themselves in innovative ways, all through fragrance. Our fascination with fragrance as a powerful ally of well-being led us to develop CRA-YON.

You are both pioneers in the perfume world. How do you find the inspiration to continually reinvent perfume? 

Inspiration comes from everywhere - art, nature, travel and even everyday life. We're constantly looking for new experiences and paying attention to the little details around us. By remaining curious and open to the world, we find endless sources of inspiration to reinvent and modernize classic olfactory families, creating new and exciting scents that resonate with everyone's emotions and lifestyles.

"Everything we do at CRA-YON is designed to inspire joy, curiosity and good feelings. It's first and foremost a state of mind. We believe that enhancing our senses goes beyond products; it's a way of being. It's about being present in the moment, appreciating our senses and being curious about the world around us". 

How did you go about designing each Cra-yon fragrance?

Each CRA-YON fragrance is designed as part ofa perfume wardrobe, with different scents for different moments and moods. We start with a concept or emotion we want to capture, then carefully select the ingredients that evoke that feeling. Through a collaborative process, we refine each fragrance until it perfectly embodies the desired experience, enabling our customers to create their own personal combinations and styles.

Why did you decide to create mixed fragrances to suit every mood and state of mind? 

We believe that fragrances should be versatile, just like our moods and states of mind. The CRA-YON COLLECTION collection comprises 10 unique fragrance compositions, each with its own individuality (Editor's note: Oh My Cream currently offers 5). All fragrances are designed to be combined and layered, offering infinite possibilities and enabling our customers to choose a scent that matches their state of mind at any given moment. This approach allows everyone to make scents their own, using them as a tool for personal expression and emotional well-being, to enhance their daily experiences.

Why was it important for you to offer noble formulas with sustainable ingredients?

Quite simply, because it's at the heart of our brand ethos. We are committed to sustainable development and the well-being of our customers and the planet. By using high-quality, vegan and cruelty-free ingredients, we ensure that our fragrances are safe, ethical and respectful of the environment. This commitment reflects our belief that luxury should never come at the expense of health or the environment.

What advice would you give us to help everyone find their own olfactory signature?

In fact, we invite everyone to abandon the old concept of searching for a single fragrance. It often complicates and limits things. Why wear the same perfume every day when you can ask yourself: "How do I want to feel today?", and then dig into your perfume cabinet to find the mood and scent that will match the mood of your day.
