In the bathroom of Odélia de Cock, founder of Maison Umami

She's passionate about the South, nature, sharing and an eye for detail... Since 2017 Odélia de Cock has been imagining stunning dinners with her catering service Maison Umami and the event agency Daryaodélia Studio, which she co-founded. Meet this successful entrepreneur with a slow living approach.

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Odelia, and I was born and live in Marseille, the city of my heart. It brings me a lot thanks to its mix of city and nature, but I also need to leave it to recharge my batteries and find new inspiration. I launched UMAMI HOUSE in 2017 and for over a year now I've been co-founding Daryaodelia Studio (@darya.odelia).

How did you come up with the idea of founding Maison Umami?

The desire to share around a big table, to exchange ideas, to meet people, all with fresh, seasonal products. It was also an opportunity to collaborate with chefs, florists, ceramists, artisans and other professions that inspire me.

MAISON UMAMI has now become my art direction, food styling and catering project, sometimes collaborating on the events we organize with Daryaodelia Studio

The latter is a creative studio launched with Darya Koppoffering "extra-ordinary" experiences combining food & design.

And why this evocative name?

My passion for Japan

Its cuisine

Its architecture

His culture

Almost everything...!

And since we're talking about cooking and flavors. Umami is the 5th flavor in Japan, referring to deliciousness.

What do slow food and slow living mean to you?

The two are a perfect pair.

Buy as locally as possible and always in season, directly from producers or via responsible channels. Apply it as much as possible to everyday things.

Go to committed grocery stores like Provisions in Marseille and shop at the farmers' market or biocoop on a daily basis. My tableware is mainly local (@poterieravel and @franca.atelier) and/or second-hand. My everyday outfits are mostly made with pieces from the timeless brand La Fétiche (@studio_lafetiche), which has all its clothes made in Europe and whose 100% Scottish wools I collect and make locally.

This philosophy reminds me to take the time to appreciate what we have, to know how to disconnect, to find refuge in simple moments that often lead us to find ourselves in nature.

What is your vision of beauty and well-aging?

Hydration! Sport, taking time for myself and trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Since the start of the new school year, I've decided to add more wellness rituals, including massages at @mu.soinsmanuels. The Renata massage at the change of season to boost my energy and the madero therapy for its draining and firming effect.

"You have to take the time to appreciate what you have, know how to disconnect, also find refuge in simple moments that often lead to finding yourself in nature."

What's your beauty routine like?

My beauty routine is fairly recent, and it was thanks to my partner Darya Kopp that I discovered and decided to devote time to my skin. Before, I only used moisturizer on days when my skin was dry. Now I have a morning and evening ritual to try to always have the glow.

It's a real moment to oneself that allows you to relax, and it's also a way of looking at slow living. I thank her for opening up this world to me.

What are your skin care essentials?

We're often lucky enough to try out new products, which to date have all been very pleasant to use, but I have to say that my current routine is essentially based on Korean Pink Wonder products, and my skin thanks me for it! I discovered them last summer, invited to a lunch thanks to Parysatis, and we then worked with them in June, organizing 2 days of product discovery through treatments with a Korean facialist in the Le Corbusier apartment of Jogging Houses.

This enabled us to learn more about the basics of healthy skin and the routines to adapt according to each person's specific problems. Hydration remains the key for me!

I also discovered La Bonne Brosse after a lunch we organized for the brand, and now I'm a big fan. I've rediscovered the pleasure of brushing my hair every day thanks to La Brosse N°02 L'indispensable Soin et Démêlage !

I also use the Plumping Serum and the Plumping Cream Oh My Cream Skincare morning and night. They moisturize my skin well, brightening it without making it oily and helping it to stay well hydrated. See you in a month's time for the results of my new Oh My Cream Skincare routine.

Do you have any wellness rituals to recharge your batteries?

Walking/hiking and swimming, I try to include running but I'm really not regular. Apparently walking with me is like running.

Do you have a tip to share to help everyone feel good every day?

Identify what makes you happy and find time to devote to it as often as possible to recharge your batteries.

What helps you feel good every day?

Nature, family, friends and animals.
