How do I care for combination to oily skin?
While combination to oily skin is the most common type of skin, it's not always easy to treat. How do you prevent shine (and sometimes pimples) without over-stripping and dehydrating the skin? Here are our best tips for gently regulating excesses and caring for combination to oily skin.
How do I care for combination to oily skin?
5 indicators help identify "combination to oily" skin type: localized excess sebum, occasional tightness, occasional imperfections, uneven skin tone and irregular skin texture. Sebum also has an unfortunate tendency to clog pores and cause small imperfections... So we also generally recognize combination to oily skin when the complexion is blurred, and make-up does not hold well.
Combination skin may be the most aesthetically pleasing and comfortable skin type on a daily basis, but it's also unbalanced, changeable and easily irritated, because it's too often treated like oily skin, with harsh, stripping skincare products.
To treat combination skin, you need to adjust your routine by mixing products that treat dry cheeks... And by regulating the excess of sebum on the median axis.
On the other hand, oily skin has certain advantages: it's less susceptible to irritation and skin diseases (such as eczema), and ages better thanks to better elasticity. All the more reason to be patient
What are the differences between combination and oily skin?
If you have combination skin, the skin on your cheeks and temples is soft and even. Your T-zone, on the other hand, is shiny and prone to imperfections, such as pimples or blackheads. The shine is therefore localized.
This is an intermediate skin type that combines all the advantages and disadvantages of oily and dry skin:
- A nice skin texture in places, but some tightness after the shower for example.
- Uneven, oily skin in areas most exposed to external aggressors.
Oily skin is characterized by an overproduction of sebum (hyperseborrhea), giving the skin an oily, shiny appearance all over the face. This defense system is often triggered by pollution or stress, and ends up attracting numerous bacteria responsible for the appearance of pimples or dilated pores.
- The skin texture is thicker and the pores are dilated, which gives the appearance of a dull complexion since the skin reflects light less well.
- Blemishes such as blackheads and spots may occasionally appear.
Oily skin is therefore fragile, and despite popular belief, needs specific protection and regular moisturizing.
