Curly hair: the secrets to dream hair

Curls are a hair problem that's often difficult to manage (and sometimes difficult to live up to), but they're the stuff of dreams. So if you're looking for gorgeous wavy, curly or frizzy hair, here are our little secrets for mastering and, above all, magnifying curls.

How to care for curly and wavy hair

The headache with curly hair is the perpetual battle against frothy hair and lack of uniformity. The ultimate goal? To maintain well-defined curls day after day. But those with curly, frizzy or wavy hair know all too well: taking care of your curls is no easy task. Often dry, lacking in moisture or unruly, curly hair is not the easiest to tame.

Indeed, because of their shape (spiral for curly hair or S-shaped for wavy hair), the sebum that moisturizes hair from roots to ends has difficulty reaching the entire length. Less nourished and less protected from dehydration, curly hair is by nature more fragile, drier and often more brittle than straight hair. But don't worry, there are a number of clean treatments available to help you achieve defined curls, nourished lengths and eliminated frizz.

If you're a fan of straightening and/or have turned to unsuitable hair care products in the past, it can take time to get your curls back to their natural state. The transition period may take several weeks or even months, but don't be discouraged! The result: beautiful, well-defined curls that you'll enjoy styling.

Know your curl type

To find the right routine and care for curly hair, it's important to know not only your hair type, but also your curl type. In 1997, renowned hairstylist Andre Walker established a classification of hair into 4 categories and 3 sub-categories (A, B and C) to define hair thickness and curl. Type 1 corresponds to straight hair without waves, difficult to curl and easily greasy.

  • Type 2: Wavy to curly hair: often thicker than straight hair, it has a spiral or S shape.

    •  2A: S-shaped waves with little volume

    • 2B: more defined S-shaped undulations

    • 2C: well-defined S-shaped waves with volume.

  • Type 3: curly to frizzy hair: curls are 2-shaped and can be very tight.

    • 3A: large 2-shaped curls

    • 3B: tight, well-defined curls in the shape of a 2.

    • 3C: tight, well-defined 2-shaped curls.

  • Type 4: frizzy hair: tight, Z-shaped curls, voluminous, fragile hair.

    • 4A: tight, Z-shaped curls.

    • 4B: fine, dense hair and Z-shaped curls.

    • 4C: fine, fragile hair and Z-shaped curls.

The right curly hair routine

Nourishing shampoo

As with straight hair, there's no need to wash curly or wavy hair too often. Washing too often candry out your hair, disturbing the scalp's sebaceous glands, which produce more sebum. What's more, too much water can weigh down curls. So we arm ourselves with a moisturizing and nourishing shampoo such as Hydration Shampoo Shampoing Hydratant Apply a small amount to scalp and roots, massaging with fingertips to gently cleanse and activate microcirculation.

Do you have curly or frizzy hair? Choose a cream cleanser like Strong Curl Shampoo Cut By Fred, which gently cleanses even the tightest, most defined curls without lathering.

The right conditioner

Conditioner is an essential step in detangling curls without breaking them, while revitalizing the hair fiber. We recommend you apply your conditioner to wet hair, leave it on for a few minutes and then detangle with a comb. The treatment you need? CeremoniaCupuaçu & Castor Acondicionador Conditioner, a moisturizing and nourishing treatment that boosts shine while keeping frizz under control.

#seo: curly hair mask

Deep care

To restore shine to your hair while defining your curls, opt once a week for a nourishing mask like the Mascarilla Revitalizing Hair Mask by Babassu Ceremonia. Enriched with 6 natural oils and butters, it's the treatment for maximum hydration and silky-smooth hair. For very curly, frizzy or frizzy hair, opt for the most nourishing mask on our shelves: the Strong Curl Hair Mask Cut by Fred

The oil bath to moisturize

To deeply nourish hair, strengthen lengths and smooth scales, a pre-shampoo oil bath will do your curls a world of good. A veritable cocktail of plant oils, theOvernight Repair Balm Baume Réparateur Cheveux Cut By Fred is the night balm that helps dry, brittle hair regain its strength and shine.

To apply, warm a small dab between your hands, then distribute over the lengths before twisting your hair. Leave in overnight, then rinse the next morning and continue with your shampoo.

The styling cream that changes everything

Ideal for wavy, curly or frizzy hair, the Vegan Curl Cream for Curly Hair Cut by Fred defines and defines curls without setting them, and helps seal in moisture thanks to its oil-rich formula.

To maximize the effectiveness of your curling cream, remember to apply it to damp hair, then scrunch your hair (grab the ends of your hair with your full hand, then work them up to the roots in an accordion-like motion). If necessary, blow-dry with a diffuser.

The trick to brushing hair without breaking the wave

It is not recommended to detangle wavy, curly or frizzy hair on a daily basis. If you brush your hair every day, you'll break the curls and add frizz-rich, mousse-like volume to your hair...

The trick to detangling curly hair? Do it in the shower on wet hair during or after applying your conditioner, using a wide-tooth comb like the Detangling Comb La Bonne Brosse. You can also detangle with your head bent forward to boost volume from the roots

And if you want to boost your hair growth, we recommend using the Scalp Massaging Brush Oh My Cream Skincare with your shampoo.

Maintaining curls between washes

The key to curly hair? Keeping your curls bouncing day after day. Here are a few tips for maintaining your curls and taking care of your hair between shampoos:

  • To avoid frizz in the morning and prevent your hair from tangling while you sleep, opt for a Silk Pillow Case Venus & Gaia

  • To give curls a boost without shampooing, opt for co-wash ! This method consists of applying a conditioner to (wet) lengths to refresh between two "real" shampoos, while spacing out washes.

  • For intact curls after a good night's sleep, tie your hair up with the Silk Scrunchie Trio Venus & Gaia in a high ponytail without tightening the elastic.

  • For a burst of radiance on the lengths, we love theNourishing Hair Elixir Oil Mist con Aloe Vera Ceremonia, a nourishing serum for optimal shine, while smoothing frizz.
