Interview with... Caroline Pelissier founder of Racyne

For Caroline Pelissier, the art of perfuming is not trivial: it's a sensory moment for oneself, a way of anchoring oneself in the essential. Meet this clean beauty enthusiast who, with Racyne, imagines fragrances that are both sensitive and minimalist, embodying an alternative vision of haute parfumerie.

How did the desire to create your own perfume house come about?

I worked for a number of top perfume brands for over seven years, and one day I realized that I hardly wore perfume any more. That was the starting point for a long period of reflection. I wanted to understand why. What was bothering me?

I realized that I'd always worn perfume because it made me feel good, and that wearing perfume wasn't a trivial matter or necessarily linked to seduction. Above all, it was a personal ritual, a powerful vector of well-being and anchoring me in naturalness. I was also very clean beautyI used carefully selected skincare products with beautiful compositions and brands with a commitment to eco-responsibility. When it came to perfume, I couldn't find anything that matched all these desires.

That's how the desire to create was born. Racyne.

How is perfume a powerful ritual in our lives?

In our tumultuous, immaterial and often mineral lives, the sense of smell is extremely precious, both sensitive and powerful, reconnecting us to touch, to our emotions and to nature. Depending on the fragrance we choose, we can anchor ourselves, soothe ourselves, boost our self-confidence... It's an everyday ally and a true source of inspiration. When we're on the move, for example, in transport, perfume can reassure and protect us, like a shield or a second skin.

Can you tell us more about your alternative vision of haute parfumerie?

When I created Racyne, I was guided by the desire to write an alternative, more inspiring haute parfumerie for everyday life. No retouched muse, abstract concepts or intrusive scents, Racyne issimply a sensory invitation to feel, to put down our phones and take a moment for ourselves to ground ourselves in the essential. Beyond this vision of olfaction, I needed to explore other ways of making haute parfumerie: trying to limit the brand's impact while remaining desirable, producing locally and artisanally, and finally formulating with care within the constraints of naturalness and cleanliness.

How would you describe Racyne fragrances?

Essential, subtle and sophisticated. We seek to strike a balance between power and delicacy. These are sensory pauses, second skins to accompany us in our daily lives. We're not at all interested in the kind of olfactory shock that irritates the neighbors, or in nauseating gourmand notes, for example.

What inspires you on a daily basis to imagine each scent?

There really is a contemplative aspect to Racyne, a sensitive look at the world around us - which never ceases to amaze me on a daily basis: the ripple of wind and sea, the warm earth, the delicate dew, the play of light in the morning... Inspiration is all around us and never-ending. Reading and art are also important sources of inspiration.

Can you tell us more about the formulation?

Our fragrances are haute parfumerie creations, formulated by renowned noses and rich in exceptional natural raw materials. They arefree from harmful preservatives (BHA, BHT, parabens...), phthalates, chemical UV filters, colorants and much more. The alcohol in our fragrances is organic wheat alcohol. We also source as many of our natural raw materials as possible in a responsible and traceable way. Our formulas are short and made in France. Our formulas are vegan and, of course, not tested on animals.

Why was it important for you to create fragrances with clean, transparent formulas?

On the whole, I try to be careful about what I consume, especially in terms of skincare and make-up - so I'm obviously an Oh My Cream customer! I felt that perfume was lagging behind the rest of the beauty world, and I wanted to move it in the right direction.

What tips would you give to help everyone find their own olfactory signature?

Emotion and feeling. I don't think you should let yourself be pigeonholed by what you've already worn or by the type of perfume. You have to smell without preconceived ideas and listen to your emotions. And why have just one olfactory signature? I have several, depending on my mood, my schedule, the season...!

In any case, always take the time to test on your skin, ideally over several days, to check that you really feel comfortable with the chosen fragrance.
