We tried it for you... The treatment that promises to deeply relax the body
In a life where we spend our days hunched over a screen or our evenings slumped on the couch, assisted stretching might just be the new way to relax. Between post-workout recovery, deep relaxation, and the pursuit of mobility and flexibility, could assisted stretching be the new wellness experience set to replace massage? We tried out We Stretch for you—the studio that easily fit into our wellness routine.
What are the benefits of stretching?
Assisted stretching isn’t a treatment that transforms the body, but it does change the way we experience it: more flexible, less tense, and sometimes simply lighter. Among its main benefits, stretching helps to:
-
Improve and maintain mobility: you’ll gain joint flexibility, reduce stiffness, and improve your posture.
-
Relieve muscle tension and stiffness that build up in the body throughout the day by helping to deeply relax each area.
-
Reduce stress and inflammation: by relaxing the nervous system and relieving muscle tension.
-
Improve circulation and athletic recovery: Each deep stretch helps boost blood flow to promote tissue oxygenation and stimulate recovery.
-
Developing greater body awareness: you become more attuned to your limits, you notice asymmetries… You get to know your body better.
Stretching alone or with others: what are the differences?
Unlike a "traditional" session where you perform the stretches yourself, here you remain passive or semi-active while a practitioner mobilizes your joints and gradually lengthens your muscles. The goal? To achieve deeper muscle relaxation. Because when you stretch on your own, you’re often limited by your flexibility, balance, or ability to hold a position, or you end up straining the same muscles over and over at the expense of others.
With assisted stretching, the practitioner can stabilize certain parts of the body and guide the movement to go deeper. This allows for greater relaxation because you’re letting go of the movement, making it easier to release tension. Furthermore, the advantage of assisted stretching is its personalized approach: the practitioner can easily identify imbalances between the right and left sides, stiffer areas, or postural compensations, and can adapt the session accordingly.
Simply put, while traditional stretching relies on self-direction, assisted stretching focuses on guided support. The body exerts less effort but is guided more closely, in an experience that draws as much from wellness treatments as it does from physical training.
What people thought of the We Stretch method
“Who would have thought that 25 (and 50) minutes of guided stretching could be so relaxing? Here, there are no essential oils or even a massage table, just a comfortable bench where you sit fully clothed and let yourself be guided—why not, with your eyes closed? Our assigned osteopath gently stretches each muscle to release tension. The body lengthens, discomfort fades away, our breath guides us, and relaxation sets in… Each precise, measured movement helps us gain flexibility and mobility. But what’s striking after a session is the harmony you feel throughout your body, the sense of having regained a certain fluidity, an undeniable lightness, of moving differently. Ultimately, We Stretch makes us aware of our body and its strength, like a meditative experience. Quite simply, a true moment of pure well-being.” - Elsa, Editorial Manager.
