We tested for you... Morpheus 8, the anti-aging technology that improves skin quality

Winner of the 2020 prize for innovation in aesthetic medicine, the Morpheus 8 technique offers stunning results on skin quality, all without surgery. But what is this technology that attracts beauty addicts in search of regenerating action on the skin? Explanations from Dr. Olivier Claudecosmetic surgeon in Paris.

"Morpheus 8 is the latest generation of fractional radiofrequency with micro-needling. It is a treatment that remodels the face and body, providing in-depth skin rejuvenation and regeneration, as well as tissue renewal, by acting on : 

• Skin slackening thanks to a "lifting" effect

• Skin imperfections (wrinkles, scars and stretch marks)

• Small localized excess fat

Micro-needling uses micro-perforations in the skin to stimulate collagen production. Often performed on its own in a beauty salon, this type of isolated treatment produces relatively poor results. It must be combined with mesotherapy serums and/or growth factors to obtain interesting results.

The Morpheus 8 session is customized to the needs and desires of each patient, and lasts approximately 30 minutes. The treatment begins with a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the skin. After applying an anesthetic cream to the skin for comfort, the session can begin. 

The intensity of the radiofrequency energy, the depth of the microneedling (1 to 8 mm), and the number of passes are adapted to each session and customized for each patient to optimize results. With each impact, the 24 needles penetrate the subcutaneous space to deliver the radiofrequency energy. 

Combined treatments, such as mesotherapy, may be used, depending on the patient, during the session to reinforce the synergy of the treatments. 

At the end of the session, a regenerating moisturizing cream is applied to the skin. It is important to repeat the application 3 to 4 times a day for 48 hours in order to reduce the small redness and secondary edema. The skin remains sensitized for about 15 days, even if the redness is usually limited to 1 or 2 days. It is therefore important to avoid any potentially irritating skin care product (with fruit acids or retinol), and to avoid exposure to the sun for 15 days, without forgetting to use an SPF 50 every time you go out. 

Dr. Olivier Claude usually recommends 2 to 4 sessions, spaced 3 to 5 weeks apart, to optimize the results of Morpheus 8. The improvement will be visible within 3 to 6 weeks following the treatment. According to Dr. Olivier Claude, this treatment can be performed at the first signs of sagging, usually around age 35. It thus acts in prevention of cutaneous aging.
