Should you squeeze blackheads by hand, use a blackhead mask or blackhead patch? Follow our guide and blackhead treatments to get rid of blackheads effectively
What is a blackhead?
Blackheads appear as a result of excessive sebum production. Combination to oily skins are therefore more likely to see these little annoyances appear on the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin). Nose blackheads are actually caused by a dysfunction of the sebaceous gland. In response to a variety of factors, the gland can go into overdrive, producing too much sebum. Sebum, which forms the hydrolipidic film of the epidermis, serves to protect the skin from dehydration, and as a natural barrier, it is therefore essential for the skin! The problem is that when these glands produce too much, pores end up dilating to distribute the sebum. These excesses quickly overwhelm the pores, causing them to become clogged! Add to this an accumulation of dead cells and an oxidation phenomenon which means that, on contact with the air, this happy mixture changes colour, turning into a blackhead.
Gestures to be avoided
- Of course, it's important to exercise self-control and not go after a blackhead as soon as it appears. Not only do you risk leaving a scar, but you can also spread the impurity and infect another pore.
-
We avoid camouflaging them with layers of make-up containing mineral oils and artificial colourings that serve as a concealer while clogging your pores!
-
Don't use the blackhead patch on your nose! Too aggressive, it's not as effective as you might think. In fact, the blackhead patch may only remove the upper part of the blackhead on the nose, without completely unblocking the pore. So blackheads gradually return afterwards.
The gestures for a homemade blackhead extraction
The right tip? Start with a a steam bath with a few drops of thyme essential oil for several minutes. This facial sauna will make it possible to dilate the pores and "soften" the sebum. We then move on to the gentle extraction: with perfectly clean hands, arm yourself with a handkerchief and press gently. It will be enough then to disinfect and the turn is played! If there is too much or that the skin is too sensitive, one offers oneself a professional care in a cabinsuch as Dermalogica's one-hour ProSkin treatment. The good thing? You don't come out all red because the professional products act by modifying the skin's pH to facilitate the extraction of blackheads.
And to prevent blackheads...
- Choose a non-comedogenic moisturizing day cream such as Active Oil-Free Moisturizer Hydratant Léger Indie LeeActive Oil-Free Moisturizer Light, a popular moisturizer for combination to oily skin based on mandarin and daisy. It prevents blemishes and shineIt also soothes even the most sensitive skin.
- Changing your make-up Avoid mineral oils, which are film-forming and may not be suitable for for skin prone to blackheads and artificial colorants that clog pores! Choose a foundation with a clean composition, such as Mineral Powder SPF20 Oh My Cream Skincarewhich also works well to camouflage imperfections.
- Take a close look at your habits: Are your blackheads always in the same place? Look for the cause! A cell phone screwed to the ear... but also stuck to the cheek, a blush of dubious composition, dirty brushes, or a pillowcase that is not washed regularly enough, and there you have the blackheads on your cheeks! If they are rather located on the forehead, we can suspect the conditioner or a hair mask too siliconized or even the wearing of a helmet or a cap. If you have the bad habit of fiddling with your face often, beware of the chin, which can also be affected. We talk about it less, but the back can also be subject to blackheads: change your washing powder or your fabric softener which can be responsible...
